Ladakh election results usher in a new politics in the trans-Himalayan region

Ladakh’s Kargil Council election generated curiosity across the nations as the results startled the local administration. NC-Cong won 22 of 26 seats, BJP 2, and Independents 2. It was found that voters chose local issues over BJP’s promises of economic prosperity & infrastructure. Unity between Leh & Kargil, NC’s participation, & Congress’ single constituency aided the victory. Voters understood “all politics is local”.
